The Peninsula: white-glove service and old-world grandiosity

THE PENINSULA BANGKOK ★★★★★

You might feel like being in London while at The Peninsula Bangkok because of the sparkling lights that lit the grand entrance, the elegant doormen, the racing vehicles of the British that are parked out front.

The Peninsula Hotels has its roots in Hong Kong‘s glamorous Peninsula Hotel, the group flagship hotel, and Hong Kong’s oldest hotel, which opened in 1928. It’s situated on the southern peak of the Kowloon Peninsula in the Tsim Sha Tsui area. Since then, the name of this hotel has over the years been associated with white-glove service and old-world grandiosity.

The Peninsula Bangkok offers grand views of the Chao Praya River. The swimming pool of this luxury hotel is among the best ones available in the city. So, take a dip and beat the heat of the hot capital. The hotel also has a gym with an appended sauna that provides free pilates, water aerobics, and yoga sessions. The Peninsula also offers a variety of experiences for its guests, such as Thai cooking classes and Muay Thai lessons.

All the Peninsula’s restaurants offer healthy food options, prepared with organic ingredients and including some vegetarian choices. Thiptara (ทิพย์ธารา), which means “water from the heaven” serves excellent Thai cuisine, yielding a distinctive dining experience on the banks of the river, with magnificent banyan trees and opulent tropical gardens. The Som Tum (ส้มตำ), a spicy papaya salad that is a classic street dish, is amazingly good. Some of the herbs used in the preparation are from the garden of the hotel.

The River Café and Terrace deliver a wide range of international food; Mei Jiang is a Chinese restaurant that has become very successful with local diners; its Dim Sum is well appreciated throughout the city. Before dinner, the River Bar is where you can enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine. Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet arrangement that is best enjoyed outside by the river, with many Asian and western selections, excellent juices and fresh fruit.

The rooms overlooking the river are a dream, spectacular breakfast with western buffet and delicious Asian specialties. The pool on the edge of the Chao Phrya River is like in a magazine. Exquisite attention, very good service, glamor, and excellent cuisine.
